Neewer HS60B & HS60C Handheld LED Lights – A Photographer’s Review
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I’m always on the lookout for gear that makes creative photography easier, more fun, and a little less intimidating — especially for those just starting out. Today, I want to introduce you to two lights that have quickly earned a spot in my workshop kit: the Neewer HS60B and HS60C handheld LED lights.
These little powerhouses are designed to make lighting flexible, fast, and portable. And if you’re someone who’s been feeling a bit nervous about stepping into artificial lighting, don’t worry — these lights make it incredibly easy.
Let’s dive in…
First Impressions
Straight out of the box, the HS60B and HS60C come neatly packed in their own sturdy little carry bags. You’ll also find power adapters, manuals, and a small diffuser with each light. Everything is compact, lightweight, and designed to be mobile — perfect for on-location shoots, workshops, or even just moving around your home studio.
In the hand, they feel solid without being heavy. They’re about the size of a large lens, so slipping them into your kit bag is no drama at all.
What’s the Difference Between the HS60B and HS60C?
HS60B is the bi-color version. It allows you to shift your light temperature anywhere between a warm 2700K and a cool 6500K. This is fantastic for matching ambient light, adding warmth to portraits, or cooling things down for that clean, daylight look.
HS60C is the RGB version. This one lets you dial in just about any color you can dream up. Want a purple backdrop? No problem. Need a dramatic red kicker light for portraits? Done.
They both come packed with creative lighting modes like flashing, explosion effects, and even party lights.
Both lights run off mains power or you can add a Neewer battery pack for full portability. I tested them with the Neewer PS099E power pack, and it gave me a solid 2–2.5 hours depending on the brightness I was running.
Setting Up and Using the Lights
Getting started with these lights is honestly a breeze. Each light has an OLED screen and simple control dials. You turn the dials to adjust brightness, color temperature, saturation, or switch between lighting modes. If you’ve ever struggled with fiddly controls mid-shoot (especially in a dark studio), you’ll really appreciate how intuitive these lights are.
Better still, you can control them with the Neewer app, which connects quickly and allows you to adjust settings remotely — ideal when your light is mounted up high or tucked into a tricky spot. Fabulous to use in conjunction with the Neewer CB200C too! See the setup below.
Real-World Performance
I’ve been using the HS60B and HS60C for portraits, still life setups, and a few creative projects around the studio. They’re bright enough for close-up and small scene work, but keep in mind they are only 60W. So while they’re powerful for their size, they won’t replace your big 200W studio lights if you need massive output.
That said, for creative lighting effects, handheld flexibility, and fast setup, these lights are fantastic. The built-in softbox and diffuser create a nice soft quality of light, and the RGB modes open up a ton of creative possibilities without needing extra gels or accessories.

Sure, they’re not as powerful as my big studio lights, but for handheld, location, and creative work, they’re absolutely brilliant. I’ll definitely be using these in my upcoming workshops and tutorials — so keep an eye out for them popping up in future shoots.
If lighting has ever made you hesitate, these lights could be the confidence boost you need to jump in and start experimenting. And honestly, that’s where the magic really begins.
