Why aren't more women in their 40's, 50's, 60's being photographed?
I adore getting strong, powerful and beautiful women, just like Hayley in front of my camera. In costume? OMG Swoon...I want to see MORE in my studio.
So I'm working on a project - "Over 40 and friggin fabulous" and I've already got the ball rolling and gorgeous women booking in (can't wait to start sharing their photos and stories!). But I am looking for more women 40 and over who LOVE to play dressups, I'm talking witches and elves, fairies, sorcerers, goddesses, creatives of all sorts...let's create some magic. Let's show the world we still have some SASS.
It's not about how young you are, or how beautiful you are. Short, or tall, curvy or thin. It's about being present, in the moment and living life to it's fullest. Don't you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to have beautiful images of how you are right now? They love you for who you are, not for how you feel about yourself or how you think you look. Real images that capture the real you. Brave, Sassy, Strong, Sexy, Enchanted, Wicked...it's all there waiting to step foot in front of my camera.
So...who is next, who deserves to bring their fun, quirky, beautiful self in front of my lens? MSG me and let's chat. I want to get even more fabulous women back into my studio again.
Are YOU up for the challenge????
I am truer to myself. I think once we hit our 40s, we aren't as susceptible to marketing or the media's vision of how we should present. How we should look, dress, and act. I have found that I no longer care if don't match the images we are bombarded with daily, and the opinions of others in that regard no longer bother me, either. I am much more content within myself, happy to dress the way I want to and wear makeup how I wish. I no longer fear what people think of my appearance. I am proud to be me. Being content within myself has made life so much more enjoyable. Accepting my quirks (because they don't hurt anyone!) is no longer anything to be ashamed of. I embrace them, and again, I am so much happier as a result. I am no longer ashamed to be me. Women of our age are supposed to 'disappear.' We are under-represented in so many areas. Once upon a time, I thought that I too should stay in the shadows, until I reached an older age when women are noticed again. But my new 'I'm in my 40s' way of thinking has completely refused to do that. I'm going to continue being on stage, shooting, and taking up room in society. And I'm not at all afraid to do so.
I am definitely over Forty and having photos done scares the bejeezus out of me. Way too many wrinkles and a little too much weight but really…. these are the lines that tell you I have lived and really enjoyed the wine and cheese and probably partied way too hard during my life. So when Julie asked for women for her fabulous and over forty project I decided it was time to step outside my comfort zone, It was a lot of fun, pampered with hair and makeup and playing dresses with the gorgeous red dress. There was lots of laughter and wow Julie made me feel so comfortable on the other side of the camera. As a photographer, we hide behind the lens and can become invisible, it was a whole new experience but one I highly recommend. So if the candles on the cake set off the fire alarm don't wait till it’s too late to have the photos done, get out and enjoy a little fantasy because Julie is amazing at what she does.
Thank you for making me look mysterious and glamorous.
Shoot number 2 with Julie was even more fun than the first. My life has been an interesting journey starting out in finance and ending up in photography, finally a job that I love.
As always life throws curve balls and we just try to survive, well that’s what I thought. Recently there have been lots of ups and downs. My business is thriving (Sports Photography) but I always want to learn which is where Julie comes in. Her workshops are amazing and I learn something new every time whether it be a lot or little its always fun and sparks my creative side and pushes me to do more. To be on the other side of the camera can also be fun. Whether its glamour or complete crazy like a mad hatter it shows how versatile we are. Life is about fun and at nearly 59 years young who cares what others think, Life's to important to be taken seriously, after all “We are all quite mad here"
This was my second experience with Julie Powell and I can’t speak highly enough of her professionalism and creative abilities.
Julie’s warm endearing personality instantly makes you comfortable throughout the entire session and her posing skills and eye for detail result in outstanding quality photos .
I recently celebrated my sixtieth birthday and are embracing being empowered and sexy !
The world is my oyster and learning from my life experiences my mantra is never too old to be bold !
“ Well, this was a big year for me as I turned 50 in January. I’ve never been one to be fussed about my age so approaching my 50th year I was excited and inspired for my future as a 50+ woman. Turning 50 to me means that I am at a stage of my life where I have many years of wisdom and experience and I am able to give myself permission to be fully self-expressed and to celebrate my truths and boundaries without any guilt or worry about not being liked. One of my highest values and my purpose in life is to help people feel seen especially young children and as I embark on the next phase of my life I look forward to adding more wisdom and more experience to my services and honour and loving myself more.
Being able to play dress-ups and live in a make-believe world at 50 years old is really a blessing and I am grateful that I get to play with my inner child every day and hope to inspire and bring that out in other adults as well. “
I had an absolute blast at my photo session with Julie. One of my favourite things to do is play dress-ups and this was the reason I didn’t think twice about booking it. And I wasn’t disappointed. It was so much fun! Julie made me feel comfortable and assisted me in posing so I didn’t feel self-conscious. The studio was jam-packed with costumes and accessories of all kinds, it made it so easy for me to choose the look I wanted. Julie embraced my brief and followed it to a tee.
I highly recommend her services for any woman who feels inspired to celebrate being over 40 - because we really are spectacular!!
I just made a return visit to Julie in June 2022. And wow the photos were even more stunning than my previous ones! Julie provided all the styling and outfits accessories etc and another wonderful HMUA. I had a ball for the whole relaxed and friendly shoot, Julie knows how to get the best out of you!
I can hardly start this project without using myself, can I? While I haven’t played dressups - yet. I did put myself in front of the camera.
Women aged 40-60 are largely being ignored and feel invisible, I say Hell No!
I lived a life, and have stories that show in my hair, my skin, and my laugh lines (I am lucky to have laughed - a LOT). My very soul. It’s not about being young, thin or beautiful. It’s about being true to yourself. Being present.
I have been fortunate in life to have met some amazing, women and I want to showcase that in my work.
