Neewer CA021 Rotatable Tripod Collar – Spec Report & Hands-On Review
For photographers and videographers who regularly shoot with telephoto or macro lenses, a lens tripod collar can make a world of difference in stability, balance, and rotation control. The Neewer CA021 is one such accessory – a rotatable tripod mount ring that offers a budget-friendly alternative to OEM collars.
In my YouTube video, I demonstrate how the CA021 performs in practical use. Below is a full spec breakdown and my personal experience using it both in the studio and on location.

⚙️ Design & Build Quality
The CA021 is crafted from sturdy aluminum alloy with a matte black finish that blends well with most DSLR lenses. It feels solid in the hand, with no sharp edges or cheap plastics. The foam lining inside the collar provides a snug fit while protecting the lens barrel from scuffs or scratches.
The locking knob allows for smooth 360° rotation, useful for switching from landscape to portrait orientation on a tripod without disturbing your framing or center of gravity.
Formfitting Design- This NEEWER CA021 rotatable collar camera base plate, made of CNC anodized aluminum alloy, is fully compatible with Sony Alpha 7R IV Alpha 7R V Alpha 7 IV Alpha 7S III. It enhances balance when using telephoto lenses, enables seamless switching between horizontal and vertical shots, and allows full access to the camera's LCD flip screen, ports, and functions while securely mounted on a tripod
Features:
Quick Horizontal to Vertical Switch- Rotate the lens collar mount 90 degrees and secure it with the thumb screw to achieve a quick, easy switch between landscape (horizontal) and portrait (vertical) orientations without having to adjust the heavy lens, which saves time and effort in repositioning. Note: Only supports lens adapter rings with less than 63mm diameter. Please remove the lens adapter bracket (if any) before use
Anti Twist Secure Lock- The advanced locking system allows your Sony Alpha mirrorless camera to be firmly fastened via an anti twist 1/4" screw with locating pin and the cross-patterned rubber pads on the mounting plate. Five additional nonslip pads inside the collar increase stability and prevent scratches to the lens. Two L-shaped hex keys included to tighten your camera without extra tools
Efficient & Safe Lens Release- Simply press to remove the longer telephoto lens, minimizing the risk of accidental falls. This feature is especially useful when switching between different lenses during a shoot, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow
Quick Release Camera Mounting- Both compatible with Arca Swiss standard and even compatible with DJI RS 2/3 quick release system for swiftly mounting on any tripod, gimbal, monopod, and slider with an identical tripod mounting system. With 4 x 1/4" and 1 x 3/8" threads on the camera mount plate bottom to be mounted on camera rigs, hand grips, and more. Not recommend using it with a gimbal due to the balance issue
✅ Performance & Usability
I tested the CA021 primarily with the Sony A7RV and Tamron 28-75mm lens, and it fit perfectly. Mounting the lens to the tripod via the collar provided an easy switch between vertical and horizontal compared to mounting the camera body directly. This is especially helpful for long exposure, macro work, or video shooting. Especially if your tripod cannot switch between the two..
The rotation is fluid and the lock holds firmly when tightened — there's no unintended play or wiggle, even with moderate movement.
Pros:
Solid metal build
Affordable alternative to OEM collars
Smooth, secure rotation
Excellent fit for compatible lenses
Easy to mount and remove
Cons:
Not compatible with all lens diameters (measure before buying)
Locking knob is a bit small if you're wearing gloves
The lens quick-release mechanism didn’t really push the lens release and needed a bit of fiddling.
🎥 Final Thoughts
For the price, the Neewer CA021 delivers excellent value. If you shoot with a compatible lens and need more options for tripod mounting, especially for macro, telephoto, or video work, this collar is a worthwhile addition to your gear bag.
Pair it with a solid tripod and you’ve got a stable, versatile setup that rivals much more expensive solutions.
