Creating a DIY lightbox

Creating a DIY lightbox

Looking for a fun photography project you can try at home? Why not make your a DIY lightbox? It doesn’t require very much, and you may already have most of what is required at home. Using a macro lens and a slice of orange (fresh and dried), I captured some incredible detail images with the light from below making the fruit translucent and glow.

The DIY lightbox setup

  • A sheet of white opaque acrylic (Perspex); mine is approximately 900mm x 600mm

  • A couple of chairs or low stools

  • Citrus sliced, I used fresh and dried (you could use pretty much any fruit or object that is translucent)

  • Water and paper towel for cleanup
