Hello, friends old and new! I thought it might be time to reintroduce myself and share a little more about who I am and what Julie Powell Photography is all about. Whether you’re new to this community or you’ve been here since the beginning, I’m so glad you’re here.
My Journey Back to the Camera
Over a decade ago, I found myself at a crossroads in life. Call it a mid-life crisis or simply a desire to find purpose, but I was desperately craving a creative outlet. Photography had always held a special place in my heart—I loved it during my school years—and picking up a camera again felt like coming home. I dove headfirst into learning everything from scratch, and it was the best decision I ever made.
For me, photography became a way to tell stories, to create something meaningful, and to connect with others. I wanted to find my "tribe," and I’m overjoyed to say that I did. This community of photographers, students, and fellow creatives has been an incredible source of support and inspiration. You all fuel my creative fire and make every day more rewarding.
My Home Studio: Simple Yet Magical
My workspace is a small home studio. It’s not flashy or grand, but it’s filled with love, creativity, and the tools to make magic happen. I’ve always believed in keeping things simple. Life is complicated enough as it is, so why not focus on what truly matters? In my studio, we create beauty, tell stories, and empower one another.
I have a special passion for photographing and empowering women of all ages. There’s something so powerful about capturing the essence of a person and showing them their own unique beauty. My tribe—the amazing community I’ve gathered over the years—is a constant reminder of how photography can connect and uplift us.
Workshops and Photoshoots
Workshops are a big part of what I do. I run at least one workshop every month, covering themes like Dance and Movement, Film Noir, Creative Lighting, Themed Portraits, Still-Life, Macro, and more. Each workshop is designed to inspire, educate, and help you grow as a photographer.

While I still love working with clients on portraits and product shoots, I’ve mostly shifted my focus to education and mentoring. My goal is to help you unlock your creativity and develop your skills, no matter where you are on your photography journey.

My Goals and Aspirations for 2025
Looking ahead to 2025, I’ve got some big goals that I’m excited to share with you:
Hit 1,000 Subscribers on YouTube: Growing my YouTube channel is a top priority. I’m so close to that magic milestone, and I’m looking forward to creating even more inspiring and educational content for all of you.
Launch New Online Classes: My mission is to keep the creative spark alive. I’m planning to introduce fresh and innovative online courses designed to ignite your imagination and build your skills.
Run More Inspiring Workshops: I want to host workshops that challenge, excite, and inspire—in new locations and with new themes. Meeting more incredible people in person is something I truly look forward to.
Collaborate with Others: I’m eager to work with more companies and creatives to bring exciting opportunities and ideas to life. Collaboration fuels creativity, and I can’t wait to see what amazing projects we can create together.

The Personal Side of Me
What about me? Well, you already know that I love all things photography. I’m also a huge fan of movies, music, and reading. I adore fantasy and magic in movies and books, but I’m just as happy with a good action flick. And yes, I’m the one watching all the Disney classics—I love a good Princess or Damsel in Distress story (guilty as charged!).
On the home front, I’ve been blessed with an ever-supportive husband of 35 years (wow!) and two adult daughters who occasionally still agree to step in front of the camera. Then there are my two constant companions, Dexter and Trixi—my shadows who are never far from my side.
