Lighting Up Your World: A Review of the Neewer LS39 Spotlight
In the world of photography and videography, lighting is often the unsung hero. It can transform a mundane scene into a captivating masterpiece, setting the mood, highlighting details, and creating a sense of atmosphere. A good spotlight can be a game-changer, offering versatility, power, and precision. I was recently sent the Neewer LS39 Spotlight, to review. To be honest a good spotlight has been on my wish list for a while.
The Neewer LS39 Spotlight has truly added an element to my photography game. This versatile tool is a must-have for any creative who wants to add drama, focus, and a touch of Hollywood glamour or creativity to their shots. You do need to keep in mind that the LS39 Spotlight needs to be used in conjunction with an additional light source to work. I used the Neewer CB200C, but it could be used with any continuous light or speedlight.
Note: Neewer sent the LS39 Spotlight to review. However, this is a completely independent review. All thoughts about this item are my own.
Key features that impress:
Adjustable Focus: The ability to precisely control the beam width allows me to highlight specific details or create stunning backdrops.
High-Quality Build: The sturdy construction ensures durability, even in demanding studio environments.
Easy to Use: The intuitive design makes it a breeze to set up and adjust, even for beginners.
Versatile Gobos and Accessories: The LS39 is compatible with various gobos, which are metal patterns that can be placed in front of the light to create interesting shadows and effects. This feature adds a creative element to your lighting setup, allowing you to experiment with different looks and styles. Additionally, the spotlight can be used with barn doors and other accessories to further control the light’s direction and intensity. The included metal gobos offer endless creative possibilities, from projecting shadows and patterns to adding unique textures to my images.
Pros
Versatility: The adjustable focus allows for a wide range of lighting effects, making it suitable for various applications like portrait photography, product photography, and video production.
Power and Brightness: The LS39 delivers a powerful output, ensuring sufficient illumination even in low-light conditions [when used in conjunction with the Neewer CB200C light]. The non-curved lens creates beams of light 4.7 times brighter, (different lights with different power levels may yield slightly different results).
Build Quality: The sturdy metal construction and stable stand contribute to its durability and longevity.
Compatibility: The spotlight is compatible with various accessories like gobos and barn doors, expanding its creative possibilities, and comes with a standard Bowens Mount
Value for Money: Considering its features and performance, the LS39 offers excellent value for the price.
Cons
Weight: The LS39 can be relatively heavy, which might make it less portable for frequent use on location, especially when combined with a light. I recommend a good sturdy C-stand as well for safety.
Heat Generation: Prolonged use can lead to heat generation, you need to be mindful when handling this product and use the gloves provided.
For larger results, this unit does require to be up quite high (minimum 2m) and farther back from your subject (again at least 2m) if you are using a small studio space this could impact its use. The below images of roses were approx 1m away and 1.5m high.

The Verdict
Neewer LS39 Spotlight
★★★★★5/5
The Neewer LS39 Spotlight and Gobo is a brilliant addition to my studio. The spotlight is great for adding cool spotlight effects for portraits and still-life, as well as product photography images. The additional Gobo and Gobo brackets make for some really interesting and cool silhouette shapes for studio work. I used it in conjunction with the Neewer CB200C COB Constant Video Light. Using a constant light makes it a bit easier to see where the spotlight is hitting.
