How to add a flame to candles in Photoshop

Candles are an essential part of many celebrations and occasions, and adding a flame to a candle can make it look more realistic and vibrant. With Adobe Photoshop, you can easily add a flame to a candle in just a few simple steps. In this blog post, we will guide you through the process of adding a flame to a candle in Photoshop.

Step 1

Open your image in Photoshop. You can do this by clicking on File > Open and selecting the image from your computer.

Step 2

Once you have opened the image, create a new layer by clicking on Layer > New > Layer. Name this layer “Flame” and make sure it is positioned above the candle layer.

Step 3

You can create a flame yourself, or simply download a free Creative Commons image from Unsplash or Pixabay. Perhaps, ‘buy’ the credited photographer a coffee as thanks! Try to find a simple candle flame on a black background, try this one.

Step 4

Cut and paste the flame and add it as a new layer on your original image, and change the blend mode to screen (this removes all the blacks). Re-position, adjust the size and erase unnecessary parts of the flame image. Duplicate this layer if you need more than one flame (Ctrl + J on a PC or Cmd +J on a MAC).

Step 5

Add another new layer, then with a soft white round brush, paint in the ‘glow’ and change the blend mode to screen.

Congratulations, you have successfully added a flame to a candle in Photoshop! With these simple steps, you can now create stunning and realistic candle images for your next project or celebration photos.
