Quick overview of Lightroom’s updated masking tools

Adobe just announced updates to a variety of products, including Lightroom. One of which I am pretty excited about is the updates to the masking tools. I took a look around the updated Masking tools area, with Select People, Objects and one-click Select background. So let’s have a little look at the overall features.

Object Select

The Select Object tool was introduced last year and it has now been tweaked for even easier and faster editing. The masks are more precise. You simple paint over an area with the Brush Select and Adobe’s AI will refine your edges.

Background Select

Previously you could select the background by inverting a Select Subject mask, now there is a direct Background Select with a single click. This allows you to edit your background independently from your main subject, whether that is a person or a flower (or something else entirely).

People Select

The People Select tool is new and super exciting. Lightroom and Adobe’s AI will pick out multiple people in the same image and allow you to apply edits to them individually. The masking tool is pretty precise, but you can add or subtract from it quickly and easily.

I put together a little video overview, but I am sure in the coming days you will see loads of posts, articles and tutorials on all these exciting new features and more.
